Managing pages in the Admin Portal
We’re thrilled to announce that our enhanced page management experience is now officially out of beta! As part of our ongoing commitment to modernizing our front ends, we have moved the management of page content exclusively to the Admin Portal. This will now be the sole method for viewing and managing pages on your website, streamlining the process and providing a more efficient user experience.
Why we made the switch
Moving page management to the Admin Portal both simplifies the process and takes advantage of the modernized code that powers this interface, enhancing your overall experience. You no longer need to switch back and forth between the community website and the Admin Portal for different page-related functions.
Now, all of that functionality is centrally located within the Admin Portal! Additionally, this change allows the community websites to focus solely on displaying page content rather than incorporating all of the management tools.
The beta period
For over a year, we have allowed our administrators to beta test the new page management functionality in the Admin Portal. This extended testing period has been invaluable in helping our team gather insights from users and refine the experience based on their feedback. After thorough testing, we're confident in the performance and reliability of this new experience and are excited to officially promote it out of beta!
What to expect
Our Admin Portal is built on our next gen front end technologies. As a result, the page management experience in the Admin Portal offers many features that are not available on the older technologies currently powering our community websites.
Below are some notable changes you can expect to see due to the updated technology:
- Lost work prevention: All forms include a built-in notice that will appear if you navigate away from the page without saving a change. This built-in safeguard is designed to help avoid accidental loss of work!
- Quick renaming: When renaming a document, committee name, or similar items, you can often change the text directly in a table without leaving the page.
- Pagination of long lists of data: For example, on the "News Articles" page type, pagination will be available if more than five articles are published. This improves overall page performance and keeps the page from growing too long.
- Multi-step forms: The next gen technologies make it easy to design multi-step forms. For instance, we have logically grouped the fields for creating events into steps, simplifying the process since there are several settings to choose from when creating an event.
Aside from leveraging some of these features that come with the next gen technologies, the core functionality will largely remain the same as what existed on the community websites, but with a fresh coat of paint!
Managing content
With the conclusion of the beta phase, all administrators with the “pages” privilege and page editors can now view and manage content for all page types available on HOA Express through the Admin Portal.
Page editors
To manage a page’s content, a page editor will click the “Edit page” button on the webpage. This will direct them to an interface specifically designed for managing that page’s content.
The new page editor experience will feature the same editing functionalities available in the Admin Portal but will not include the Admin Portal’s sidebar or topbar.
Administrators
Members with the “pages” administrative privilege will also see the “Edit page” button on the community website. Additionally, they can edit the page by visiting the “Pages” section in the Admin Portal! Under the “View/edit” column, you’ll click on the pencil icon, which will take you to a page where you can edit and manage the content for that specific page.
Wrapping up
Your feedback during the beta period has been instrumental in shaping this new page management experience. We look forward to your continued input as we refine and build upon the functionalities available with our page types.
We’re excited to see how this new approach will enhance your experience in managing content on your pages! If you have further questions or need assistance editing a page, please don't hesitate to connect with our customer success team!
Happy editing!
